Welcome to the 100th year of Art Practice at UC Berkeley! Founded in 1923, when very few universities in the country had formal art education programs, the State of California expanded its academic offerings into the visual arts.

Congratulations to our current faculty and alumni who are part of Bay Area Now 9, Yerba Buena Center for the Art’s signature triennial exhibition highlighting artists working throughout the Bay Area’s nine counties: Sholeh Asgary (Lecturer), José Figueroa (MFA’16), Connie Zheng (MFA’19), Heesoo Kwon (MFA’19), champoy (MFA’21), and Shirin Towfiq (BA’17).

Their artwork, Missing Objects Library, is one of five projects selected.

Each semester Art Practice majors are invited to submit applications for a $200 grant, and we are pleased to be able to offset materials costs and help so many students in producing their work!

Applications are open for Summer Abroad in Greece! Students can earn 6 upper division Art Practice units while making community-engaged art in Eleusis, Greece.

Xandra Ibarra (MFA’20 and Sculpture faculty) has received a prestigious Creative Capital Award in the category of “Wild Futures” for her proposed project “Unsettled Agreements (or Political Constipation).”

Organized by the Arts Research Center, the cohort will meet bi-weekly this spring for research, conversation, critique, and feedback, along with a $3,000 award.
