Art installation and performance lecture created by artist Amanullah Mojadidi and will be part of the exhibit Emergenc(y): Afghan Lives Beyond the Forever War at the Worth Ryder Art Gallery.

Emergenc(y): Afghan Lives Beyond the Forever War centers the artistry and voices of Afghans whose work examines the human impact of U.S. occupation, the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Afghans throughout the world, and the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
An enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and Hawk Clan, Luanne Redeye received her MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of New Mexico. Representing community, family, and culture in her artwork, she draws inspiration from her experience growing up on the Allegany Indian Reservation in NY.
Lindsay August-Salazar received her B.F.A. from UCLA and her MFA from UCI. Her multifaceted artistic practice is informed by a conviction in the power of language to invoke political, psychological, and philosophical change.

Eligible undergraduate Art Practice majors are invited to submit short project proposals to support immediate cost of art supplies and materials for one or more Art Practice classes. Individual grants will be awarded in the range of $150 - $200, with a total grant disbursement of approximately $3000 each semester.
Omid Shekari is a multidisciplinary artist from Iran. His work looks into the militarization of the government, the violence committed against civilians, and the meaning of nationalism and patriotism. He is committed to the responsibility of art to reflect and resist sovereign violence in both its flagrant forms (wars, tortures, prisons) and in its everyday forms (abandonment and policing of bodies).

NIC Kay re-creates video editing effects like glitches, rewinding, freeze frame, and overlay choreographically across various mediums. These undisciplined performances are inspired by the playfulness and immediacy of sharing video content online. NIC uses these works to explore the troubled relationships between the Black performer, the camera/video, and the audience/viewers. In 2023 they joined the Art Practice faculty at UC Berkeley.
Closing reception for “Cacophonies of Resistance,” featuring panel discussion and dance performance.
Opening Reception: Wednesday Jan 18, 2023 from 4-7, which includes a live performance by Valencia James. Cacophonies of Resistance presents new work as a form of resistance, but also of reimagination.
