Kimi Hanauer (they/them) is an artist, media-based organizer, anti-oppression facilitator and founder of interdisciplinary publishing collective, Press Press, based on Tongva-Gabrielino Land (Los Angeles). Through inherently collaborative print- and conversation-based processes, Kimi co-develops pragmatic-poetic initiatives that aim to build collective autonomy and deepen landscapes of belonging. Kimi’s work has been exhibited at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, MoMA PS1, Counterpublic, Southern Exposure, Hauser & Wirth, Wendy’s Subway, Women’s Studio Workshop, ACRE Projects, Allied Media Conference, Virtual Care Lab, Gas Gallery, Printed Matter, among other venues. Kimi’s work is archived in the public collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, among other collections. Their writing has been published by GenderFail, Wendy’s Subway, Temporary Art Review, Arts of the Working Class, BmoreArt, MARCH, and the Contemporary (Baltimore). Kimi is a queer and neurodivergent diasporan of Sephardic-Ashkenazi descent; born in Tel-Aviv with historic roots in Jerusalem; Germany; Spain; among other lands. Currently, Kimi works as an Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.
