Ramos Award show: "Free Beer, A Yardsale, Something Warm, Cats, Dogs, Nuts and Bolts, The (Otherwise) Joyous: Sunnyside Up With A Cherry On Top"

  • Worth Ryder Art Gallery 116 Anthropology + Art Practice Building Berkeley, CA 94720 (map)

"Free Beer, A Yardsale, Something Warm, Cats, Dogs, Nuts and Bolts, The (Otherwise) Joyous: Sunnyside Up With A Cherry On Top features work from JJ Colby (BA’24) and Roland Martin (BA’24), awardees of the Spring 2024 Ramos Foundation Award.

This exhibition blends low-brow humor with baroque and kitsch aesthetics, creating a playful and theatrical atmosphere where subjects become performers. Featuring animated and anthropomorphic elements, the works explore contrasts between pastoral and glamorous settings, adding a touch of the sexy and surreal. Emphasizing intuitive creation over intellectual concepts, the show delves into emotional qualities across periods, highlighting the joy of play and spontaneity.
