Black Self-Determination, Past, Present and Future: The Barbados Landship Story

Valencia James will discuss her creative research in the traditions of the Barbados Landship, a socio-cultural movement and masquerade practice established by Black working class Barbadians for collective survival. Part of this practice includes Maypole plaiting, which participants will be invited to try themselves.
