VIDRINE: Fragments of Identity

  • Worth Ryder Art Gallery 116 Anthropology and Art Practice Building Berkeley, CA 94720 (map)

VIDRINE: Fragments of Identity is an exploration of memory, identity, and self-representation through digital media. This multimedia exhibition brings together a diverse group of artists whose works capture the complexity of cultural heritage, family narratives, and personal history. From stop-motion animations of vintage advertisements to family archives, single-channel video montages, and short films that juxtapose past and present, VIDRINE weaves together stories that challenge, celebrate, and question the constructs of identity.

Curated by Madeleine Surh, the works were chosen from an open call for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming students. The collection includes Maria Silk's "The Prehistory of Transsexuality," which reimagines a historical moment through a 21st-century lens, and Bonwoo Kuh's intimate family archive, capturing conversations on a journey home. Each piece opens a window into the artist's world, inviting the viewer to witness a unique perspective on the experiences that shape who we are. Together, these works celebrate the power of storytelling in revealing the nuances of the human experience.
